Is it harder to "mod" a PS2 Slim Console, than it is for the original "Fat" version?

I have a PS2 Slim Version and I'm trying to mod it so I can play backup and burnt games. The problem is nobody seems to want to mod it for me because supposedly its time consuming and that it's harder since one of the reasons for the PS2 Slim was to try and eliminate piracy. Is all this stuff true or can I get my Slim model modded just the same as I would a Fat version?
